As far as the machine goes, the best is probably determined better by the home health care company that you choose to buy your machine from. These people deal with the machines on a daily basis and know which ones have the most complaints, problems and which are user friendly.
As far as masks are concerned, use the one that’s most comfortable for you-there are sooo many on the market that it basically comes down to personal preference. I will say that most of my patients who’ve been using their CPAPs for awhile swear by the nasal pillows style and profess to never return to the old fashioned "pig-nose" style.
    Good luck, God bless.

The previous responder said to leave the recommendation up to your DME provider. I wouldn’t say that is the best review you can get. The reason – many DME providers select the equipment they offer based on cost – the lower the cost, the better they like it. I know because I was a national sales manager for one of these companies. We negotiated with many different manufacturers, but always ended up contracting with the two companies with the lowest price. We didn’t concern ourselves with warranties because most equipment was on a rental/purchase arrangement. These units were "leased" for ten months, and then the unit was turned over to the patient. If we had any trouble with them in that 10 month period, we just swapped out the units and then sent the old one to the manufacturer. It never cost us a dime. After the 10 months were up, we didn’t care what happened because the patient owned it at that point.

So, the answer to your question is to research the different companies on the Internet and try to find reviews by real people who "use" the CPAP, instead of reviews by people who "sell" the CPAP. I have apnea and use a Respironics C Flex machine. The machine has over 14,000 hours of use and all I have ever done is change filters on it. No problems at all with this unit. I won’t guarantee you won’t have a problem with a Respironics, but I can say from personal experience this brand has worked the best for me. As far as the model goes, the right one for you is dependent upon your particular needs. That is where your DME provider can help you. Once you land on a brand, then have them help you with the model and set up. Remember, even though the RT’s are there to help and do a wonderful job, many of them are employees of the DME company and they will recommend the brand their company deals with, and that brand only. Knowledge is power, so before you choose, make sure you do your homework. Good luck.
